A fresh, contemporary collection with a vintage ‘40s feel, communicating the theme of optimism and playfulness.
Exploring how social dynamics and limitations imposed by the Second World affected fashion, particularly the impact of rationing and economic restrictions, this collection examines the trend for re-working and reinventing existing items; making new from old. Investigating the use of fashion as a morale-lifter in wartime Britain, I have incorporated propaganda slogans and advertising from the 1940s within my collection. I considered how “make-do-and-mend” culture is relevant to modern trends and have used these concepts to conceive a dynamic collection of contemporary knitwear garments.
